Common supplier-quote problems for contractors

Nobody knows who was asked

Two suppliers were phoned, one was emailed, and the list of who still owes you a price lives in someone's head.

Nobody can say whose price is in the quote

The customer accepts six weeks later, and nobody remembers which supplier's price each line was built on - or which make they quoted.

The cheapest supplier isn't cheapest on everything

One wins on the drive, another on the cable. Compare whole-list totals and you pay the difference on every job.

How supplier quote requests work in Quotier

One request per supplier, every answer in one comparison, and the prices you choose on the quote you send.

Pick the items, pick the suppliers

Choose the lines on your quote that need a price and the suppliers to ask. Each supplier gets one request of its own, and items you add for a supplier before it goes out join that same request.

Send it the way you already do

A PDF bill of materials with an empty price column for them to fill in, the same list as text to paste into a message, or an email straight from Quotier. A request you sent another way is marked as sent.

Every answer in one comparison

Add each supplier's quote against their request - upload their PDF and record their prices - and the prices line up item by item. A supplier that doesn't stock something is marked, so nobody chases them for it.

The best price on every item, suggested

From the quotes you've added, Quotier suggests who to buy each item from: the cheapest current price per item, even when that splits the list across suppliers.

A revised list for each supplier

Where a supplier priced more than you'll buy from them, Quotier draws up a revised bill of materials with only the items they won - as a PDF, as text or by email - for every supplier that needs one, and waits for their revised quotes before you use them.

Their prices on your quote

"Use these quotes" puts every supplier's winning prices on your quote's lines at once, with your markup and labour rates on top.

Whose price is on every line

Each line on your quote shows the make and whose quote its price came from, and one register lists, item by item, who was asked, who quoted, who doesn't stock it, whose price is used and what is already on order.

Win it, then order from it

When the job is yours, "Order from" raises each supplier's purchase order from the quote you priced it on.

What Quotier will not do with your supplier quotes

Each one is a decision in the code, not a gap in the roadmap.

Pick a supplier for you

The comparison suggests; you decide. Nothing lands on your quote until you use it, and a price already on the quote stays as it was until you use a new one.

Count a price that no longer holds

An expired price, or one quoted in another unit or currency than your quote's line, is never counted as the cheapest.

Show one supplier another's prices

Each supplier receives a request of their own, with an empty price column. Nobody sees what anyone else quoted.

Chase a supplier on its own

A request leaves only when you email it, download it or copy it. Quotier never sends a reminder to a supplier by itself.

Supplier quotes - common questions

Do my suppliers need a Quotier account?

No. They get a PDF, a list or an email, and answer the way they always have. You record their quote against their request.

Can I buy different items from different suppliers?

Yes - that is what the suggestion is for. If a supplier priced your whole list and you only want part of it, Quotier draws up a revised bill of materials with just those items for you to send them: a price for the whole list isn't always the price for part of it.

Can I see which supplier's price is on my quote?

Yes. Each line shows the make and the supplier's quote its price came from, and the register lists every item's source. Your customer's copy names the make, never the supplier or their price.

What if a supplier sends a better price later?

Add their revised quote and the comparison changes with it. The prices already on your quote stay put until you use the new ones.

Which module do I need?

Raising, sending and revising requests needs Procurement. Using the prices on a quote, and reading the requests you already have, keep working if it lapses.
