THE BRAND FACE — one @font-face rule, loaded by every web audience.
   ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

Instrument Sans: wght 400–700 variable, wdth pinned 93 (Arcadia's slight condensation without
the axis), SIL OFL 1.1, google/fonts@809e4d8. ONE face, deliberately: a serif italic
(Instrument Serif) shipped beside it for about an hour on 2026-09-14 as the headline's accent
line, Mercury's Tiempos move, and the owner ruled it out ("remove the funny font … rather make
it bold") — the accent line is the same sans at 700, and the serif's file, licence and token
were removed rather than left as a dead 15 KB nobody sets. Provenance, the rebuild recipe, the
measured size and the licence live in `app/assets/fonts/instrument/BUILD.md` and the
   `OFL-InstrumentSans.txt` beside it.

Linked by `layouts/application.html.erb` (every signed-in page, every org, every pack — the face
is universal since 2026-09-14, and the office-only Mona Sans it replaces is gone) and by
`layouts/marketing.html.erb`. The PDF audience does NOT read this file: it reads the generated
sibling `brand_type_pdf.css`, which carries the SANS ALONE as a base64 `data:` URI, because the
renderer fetches nothing over the network. See that file's header and spec/requests/quote_pdf_spec.rb.

⚠️ IT IS A SEPARATE STYLESHEET AND NOT PART OF THE TAILWIND BUILD, and that is the whole point.
`QuotesHelper.compiled_pdf_css` inlines `app/assets/builds/tailwind.css` VERBATIM into the HTML
of every PDF render, so a face compiled into that file would ride along on every document as a
bare `url()` the renderer cannot fetch — or, as a `data:` URI, would make the app's stylesheet
render-blocking for every page for the sake of the one audience that reads it inlined anyway.

⚠️ AND IT IS NOT UNDER `app/assets/`, WHICH IS NOT A FILING PREFERENCE. Propshaft's
`stylesheet_link_tag :app` — the one every layout calls — globs every `.css` file anywhere under
`app/assets` and links each match on EVERY page. That is harmless for THIS file (every page wants
it) but fatal for its generated sibling, whose 39 KB of base64 would then be linked on every
page as a second copy of a face the page already has. Both live here so the layouts decide, in
one place each, exactly what they link.

⚠️ `url()` IS A BARE FILENAME. Propshaft's CssAssetUrls compiler resolves it against the load
path — `app/assets/fonts/instrument-sans-brand.woff2` has the logical path
`instrument-sans-brand.woff2` — and rewrites it to the fingerprinted `/assets/…` URL. A relative
`../fonts/…` would resolve against THIS file's logical directory and miss.

WOFF2 ONLY, no second format: every browser that matters supports it, and a `.ttf` fallback
would double the payload for the one that does not.

`font-display: swap` because the fallback stack behind `--font-sans` is the system stack the app
read until today — the page is readable in San Francisco / Segoe UI while the face arrives, and
nothing is invisible for a frame. */
